End of Ramadan 2019 and Eid al-Fitr Dates

Eid al-Fitr is the first day after the end of the holy month Ramadan. It translates to the ‘festival of breaking the fast’. It is one of the most celebrated holidays in the muslim world.

This year, it's expected to start on Tuesday June 4 (subject to moon sighting) and will come with what is expected to be a lengthy public holiday.

The break is expected to run for four weekdays, meaning the possibility of a five-day weekend for workers who get Friday and Saturday off.

According to an announcement by the government earlier this year, the holiday will apply for both public and private sector officials.

Eid al Fitr is celebrated with visits to family and friends and exchanging gifts and in particular for children.

The morning of Eid al-Fitr is celebrated with Eid prayers where all mosques will be broadcast prayers of "Allahu Akbar" throughout the morning prayer. Prior, to the prayer, charity known as zakat, which is one of the five pillars of Islam must be completed before the call to prayer.
